The History of Himmeli
These beautiful, geometric structures that range from minimal and simplistic, to complicated and incredibly intricate are called Himmeli (heh-muh-lee, Emily with an "H").
Originating from the Swedish word for sky or heaven, himmel, the Himmeli are a traditional Finnish ornament, a mobile decoration that is traditionally made out of straw, or reeds in Finland.
They are typically extremely ornate and are suspended above the dinner table during the holiday season. It is thought that the larger the Himmeli, the larger the rye crop will be in the coming year.
During the holidays, the dining room ceilings can be covered with these intricate mobiles.
The designs by Handmade Sam*Made are a modern and minimalist interpretation of the traditional Himmeli.
So while you may not have a rye crop to worry about, these gorgeous Himmeli are an elegant year-round addition to any home or office. They are made with 100% brass, and handmade.
These geometric Himmeli ornaments can be placed on any surface, or embraced as an air plant holder, which is another modern addition to these beautiful pieces.
